Project Highlights

Two concepts are being studied:  widening to the west and asymmetrical "best fit" widening to reduce or minimize impacts along the corridor.

Improvements may include:

  • a raised median
  • right turn in and out of dirveways and several cross streets
  • closing access to N.C. 43 from Bells Fork Road
  • a roundabout at Worthington Road/Mills Road intersection
  • a roundabout at Signature Drive/Mills Road intersection

History of the Project

The widening of N.C. 43/Charles Boulevard was included in the 2005 Greenville Urban Area Thoroughfare Map and the 2009 Greenville Urban Area MPO Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP).  The project is programmed in the February 2019 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) for right of way in 2027 and construction in 2029.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
