The Charlotte UDO will update and combine into one document the regulations that guide growth and development in Charlotte. Since the UDO will be a primary tool for implementing the vision of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan, we are seeking the community's feedback on this first draft. The UDO includes 40 separate articles covering different standards that regulate the development of property in Charlotte. We have grouped these articles by topic and invite you to explore and provide feedback on those that interest you most. The UDO includes standards for:

First Public Draft Release
OCT 7, 2021
The public draft was developed by the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County staff, with feedback from its Ordinance Advisory Committee and consultant support from Camiros, Ltd.
First Draft Review Period
OCT 7, 2021 - JAN 14, 2022
Comments on the first draft of the UDO will be accepted through January 14, 2022.
Second Draft Release
The UDO will be revised with consideration given to community feedback, and a second draft will be released in March 2022 with mark-up displaying changes.
Second Draft Comment Period
MAR 2022 - APR 2022
This will be the second opportunity for the community to review the UDO before it goes to City Council for the adoption process. Comments will be accepted through mid-April.
Public Hearing (3rd) Draft Release
This is the draft for community comment at the public hearing before City Council and the Planning Commission.
Planning Committee Recommendation
The Planning Committee of the Planning Commission will recommend changes for a fourth draft.
Adoption (4th) Draft Release
The fourth draft of the UDO will be developed based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission.
City Council Decision
This fourth draft will be considered and voted on by City Council.
