The engagement period for the first draft of the Charlotte UDO closed on Friday, March 18. We are working to respond to each comment submitted through this portal and produce a second draft set for release in May of this year. We look forward to engaging with you and our elected leaders on this updated draft this Spring.
If you would like to read or download the first draft, the UDO includes 40 separate articles covering different standards that regulate the development of property in Charlotte. We have grouped these articles by topic and invite you to explore and provide feedback on those that interest you most. The UDO includes standards for:

The City reserves the right to block, or remove comments that contain the following:
- Vulgar, abusive, threatening language, or defamatory statements.
- Personal attacks, hate speech, or offensive terminology targeting individuals or groups of individuals.
- Off-topic comments, spam, or links unrelated to the Unified Development Ordinance.

First Public Draft Release
OCT 7, 2021
The public draft was developed by the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County staff, with feedback from its Ordinance Advisory Committee and consultant support from Camiros, Ltd.
First Draft Review Period
OCT 7, 2021 - MAR 18, 2022
Comments on the first draft of the UDO were accepted through March 18, 2022.
Public Hearing (2nd) Draft Release
A second draft will be released in May 2022. This is the draft for community comment at the public hearing before City Council and the Planning Commission.
Planning Committee Recommendation
The Planning Committee of the Planning Commission will recommend changes for a third draft.
Adoption (3rd) Draft Release
The third draft of the UDO will be developed based on the recommendation of the Planning Commission.
City Council Decision
This third draft will be considered and voted on by City Council.
