Eastfield Park
Eastfield Park
With significant canopy trees, ephemeral streams, topography with steep slopes as well as gentle rolling hills and an abundance of native flora and fauna, Eastfield Park has unlimited potential to provide multiple experiences interacting with the natural environment while still preserving and protecting the area's natural beauty.
The property is 114 total acres, located on the north side of Eastfield Road in the town of Huntersville. Purchased in 2000, the initial call for development was outlined in the County's 2008 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The 2023 master planning process and additional public input in 2024 reflected a desire for walking, hiking and cycling experiences geared toward users of varied levels of experience and nature-based play; as well as a including a dog park and other park amenities centrally located for nearby residents.
Design for phase 1 of the park was completed early in 2026; construction of that phase is expected to begin in late 2026.

Project Overview
Project Schedule:
Construction anticipated to begin: late 2026
Anticipated construction completion: late 2027
Current Status:
June 3, 2026: The Huntersville Town Board of Commissioners approved the conditional rezoning on June 2; and the design team is completing the site plan and architectural/engineering construction drawings for submittal to the town and county reviewing agencies, with minor revisions per the Town's conditional approval. The project is entering the permitting phase; town, county and state permits are required prior to the project entering into the bidding phase later this year.
April 1, 2026: A public hearing for a rezoning of the property is scheduled for May 4, 2026 with the Huntersville Town Board of Commissioners. Conditional Rezoning (from Rural [R] to Rural-Conditional [R-CD]) is required for a modification request to permit the proposed park driveway adjacent to Eastfield Road to cross a 30’ post-construction stream buffer. This driveway is required to access the parking lot serving the proposed dog park, pavilion and biking trails. Following the Town Board public hearing, the case will be heard at the Planning Board meeting on May 26, 2026; followed by a second Town Board meeting on June 2, 2026.
March 1, 2026: Construction Drawings -- 90% Complete, pending any items re: rezoning.
February 25, 2026: Town of Huntersville drop-in public information meeting regarding upcoming rezoning hearing to allow driveway access to the western portion of the project site, crossing a stream buffer of an unnamed tributary stream.
