Project Overview:

NCDOT is proposing to add right turn lanes at the U.S. 15-501 and Memorial Drive intersection and realign Page Road at 15-501 with a new traffic signal.   The purpose of the project is to increase mobility in these locations and reduce accidents.

SM-5708C: Construct an eastbound right turn lane on Memorial Drive. Construct southbound right turn lane on U.S. 15-501 at Memorial Dr.

SM-5708D: Realign the Page Road intersection with U.S. 15-501. Install of a new traffic signal.

These are Strategic Prioritization Process (SPOT*) mobility projects that are needed due to traffic volumes and safety concerns.  There is a history of accidents at the current Page Road intersection.

* SPOT (Strategic Prioritization Process) is the methodology that NCDOT uses to develop the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The process involves scoring all roadway, public transportation, bicycle, pedestrian, rail, and aviation projects on a number of criteria.

Public Input:

Due to pandemic restrictions, NCDOT has suspended in-person meetings until further notice.  Information will be provided to the public in a virtual format.  The public is encouraged to provide comments or share their thoughts regarding the project

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
