The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will begin road construction on US-89 (300 South) between University Avenue and 500 West in February 2024. Reconstruction is expected to continue through the end of the year.

The roadway between University Avenue and 500 West will be reconstructed in a similar layout as previous projects on U.S. 89 in Provo have done. This will improve the roadway and underground infrastructure while providing better transportation options for all kinds of road users.

Project Activities*: 300 South

  • Crews are finishing pouring concrete along the south side of 300 South and as early as Monday, June 17, lighting crews will be on-site to install light bases behind the sidewalk.
  • Beginning next week, crews will connect new water lines to properties on the north side of 300 South on 300 West and 400 West. This work will require water shutdowns and those properties that will be affected will receive notification.
  • Beginning as early as next week, crews will shift to the north side of 300 South and begin removing the curb, gutter, and sidewalk. Residents can expect intermittent access limitations during this work.

*schedule is subject to change due to weather, material availability, etc.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT)has designed improvements for US-89 (300 South) in Provo between University Avenue and 500 West. The project's goals are to improve the road and underground infrastructure while providing better transportation options for all kinds of road users. The project will begin in early February.

The project plans to reconstruct the road between University Avenue and 500 West in a similar layout as previous projects on U.S. 89 in Provo (500 West and 300 South) have done.

The project team plans to improve the corridor by:
  • Replacing 300 South asphalt with concrete pavement
  • Upgrading the roadway drainage system with storm drain, curb and gutter
  • Replacing aged underground utilities including sewer and culinary water
  • Adding new pedestrian/bicycle crosswalks in several locations
  • Widening the sidewalk on both sides of 300 South
  • Reconstructing driveway approaches
  • Adding on-street bicycle lanes
  • Installing "bump-outs" on 400 West to reduce the crossing distance at intersections without painted crosswalks
  • Installing raised medians between blocks to improve safety
  • *In locations with existing buildings at the back of sidewalk, widening may be required if or when those properties are redeveloped.
