The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will begin road construction on US-89 (300 South) between University Avenue and 500 West in February 2024. Reconstruction is expected to continue through the end of the year.

The roadway between University Avenue and 500 West will be reconstructed in a similar layout as previous projects on U.S. 89 in Provo have done. This will improve the roadway and underground infrastructure while providing better transportation options for all kinds of road users.

Project Activities: 300 South

Beginning Monday, April 1, crews will begin work on waterline installation at the intersection of 500 West. Crews will work on the south side and head east.

Beginning, Monday, April 1, 200 South will be closed to through traffic between 400 West and 300 West. Crews will need to install a sewer bypass system along 200 South while working on the sewer on 300 South to maintain service. This system will run along the south side of 200 South through the gutter. Local traffic access will be maintained. The road closure will be in place for approximately two days. Motorists are advised to pay attention to traffic control and slow down.

Impacts:

Homeowners can expect open trenching and intermittent access limitations during this work. One lane in each direction will be open on 300 South. Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless noted.

Project Activities: Dominion Gas

Dominion Gas continues installing new gas lines on both sides of 300 South. This work requires the closure of one lane in both directions. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes when possible. During this work, the sidewalks and some of the driveways will need to be removed to install the gas lines. This work is outside of the project and is not being directed by UDOT. Questions should be directed to Tempest Enterprises, Inc. by calling 801-262-4165 or emailing office@thetempestco.com. Dominion is anticipating finishing their work in approximately two weeks.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT)has designed improvements for US-89 (300 South) in Provo between University Avenue and 500 West. The project's goals are to improve the road and underground infrastructure while providing better transportation options for all kinds of road users. The project will begin in early February.

The project plans to reconstruct the road between University Avenue and 500 West in a similar layout as previous projects on U.S. 89 in Provo (500 West and 300 South) have done.

The project team plans to improve the corridor by:
  • Replacing 300 South asphalt with concrete pavement
  • Upgrading the roadway drainage system with storm drain, curb and gutter
  • Replacing aged underground utilities including sewer and culinary water
  • Adding new pedestrian/bicycle crosswalks in several locations
  • Widening the sidewalk on both sides of 300 South
  • Reconstructing driveway approaches
  • Adding on-street bicycle lanes
  • Installing "bump-outs" on 400 West to reduce the crossing distance at intersections without painted crosswalks
  • Installing raised medians between blocks to improve safety
  • *In locations with existing buildings at the back of sidewalk, widening may be required if or when those properties are redeveloped.
