Public Meeting Map:
Hilltop Road from Pennoak Road to Fairfax Road

Project Overview

There are two railroad tracks at the Hilltop Road crossing. The proposed project will raise the grade of Hilltop Road to bridge over the railroad, thereby improving train and vehicular safety in the project area.

The proposed project will reduce the potential for collisions at the crossing as roadway and rail traffic volumes increase in the future. In 2016 there was an average of approximately 15,000 vehicles per day at this crossing.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
