Feedback Needed on the 2024 Buncombe County Presidential Election Early Voting Survey Do you want to have a voice in how Early Voting works for the 2024 General Election? Take our five-question survey so your voice can be heard. The Buncombe County Board of Elections will take feedback into consideration when determining the number of locations and weekend hours for Early Voting. The survey closes on Friday, May 10. Staff is recommending the 13 early voting sites listed below. We also highly recommend that the Board approve weekend hours that would allow for only one shift to work per day instead of the two shifts that poll workers normally work weekdays. This will ensure poll workers can rotate days and have a day off during the two and half weeks we are open. Review the entire plan here. Proposed Sites: 1. Bee Tree Fire Station – 510 Bee Tree Rd, Swannanoa 28778 2. Black Mountain Library – 105 N. Dougherty St, Black Mountain 28711 3. East Asheville Library– 3 Avon Rd, Asheville 28805 4. Enka-Candler Library – 1404 Sand Hill Rd, Candler 28715 5. Fairview Library – 1 Taylor Rd, Fairview 28730 6. Friendship Center – 142 Shiloh Rd, Asheville 28803 7. Leicester Community Center – 2979 New Leicester Hwy, Leicester 28748 8. North Asheville Branch Library OR Reynolds Village 9. South Buncombe Library – 260 Overlook Rd, Asheville 28803 10. UNC-Asheville – Highsmith Student Union Building 11. Weaverville Community Center – 60 Lakeshore Dr, Weaverville 28787 12. Wesley Grant Southside Center (in lieu of BOE) – 285 Livingston St, Asheville 28801 13. West Asheville Library – 942 Haywood Rd, Asheville 28806 14. Southwest Buncombe County Location TBD Recommended Weekend Hours: Recommend one shift on Saturday and/or Sunday.Recommended weekend hours of 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, five hours plus the additional time needed to complete opening and closing duties.Open both Saturdays – October 19 and October 26Open one Sunday – October 27   Hours of Operation Mandates: Mandatory weekday hours are still 8:00 am to 7:30 pm.Last Saturday of early voting hours are still 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.Must maintain uniform hours for all sites. If one site is open, then all one stop sites must be open for the same number of hours. This requirement applies to weekdays and weekends.   Early Voting Dates October 17th through November 2nd What’s next? The Board of Elections will also hear in-person feedback on the plan during the meeting on April 30. During the BOE meeting on Tuesday, May 7 the board will review all of the community feedback and vote on adoption of the plan. After that, Buncombe County will publicize the finalized Early Voting and General Election locations and hours on our website, through media partners, social media, and on the Board of Elections Engage page https://engage.buncombecounty.org/boardofelections. Fair housing training isn’t just a good compliance practice, it’s a good business decision. Whether you are seeking housing, or are a provider of housing, you’re invited to take part in one or both of our upcoming training sessions happening on Wednesday, May 22 at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center. Join Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Fair Housing Project, Buncombe County, the City of Asheville, and the Land of Sky Regional Council for two free Fair Housing Requirements and Rights training. Light refreshments will be served. Make sure to register below to save your spot!  Buncombe County is committed to affirmatively furthering fair housing. It is important to recognize and challenge discrimination on all fronts, including housing. Discrimination in housing is taken seriously at every level of government, and it is important to know the protections and resources all people are entitled to nationwide. The North Carolina Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate in housing because of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, physical or mental handicaps, or family status (families with children).
