Project Overview

The Town of Beaufort is preparing a master plan for its downtown waterfront with the goal of ensuring continued access, use, and betterment of this important community asset.  Once complete, the Plan will serve as the comprehensive guide for future in-water and landside capital and operational improvement.

Critical in the plan making process is learning about issues and priorities from Town residents and users.   How can the waterfront and boat docks be improved for all?  What types of amenities are needed?  What should be prioritized?  These and other questions are paramount in shaping a plan that is fully reflective of the brand and values of Beaufort. 

 

The Beaufort Waterfront Master Plan is intended to address the following community objectives:

  • Position the Beaufort Town Docks to be annually rated one of the top five best transient marinas on the Eastern Seaboard as measured by to-be-determined customer surveys and rating entities;
  • Recommend the highest and best use for all Town-owned assets adjacent to the boardwalk as well as existing community amenities;
  • Recommend the most optimal business structure for the Town to deploy in the ongoing management of the Beaufort Town Docks post December 31, 2024. Upon completion of the Master Plan, the Committee will work with the Town to ensure a seamless transition to this optimal business structure no later than December 31, 2024;
  • Recommend the most current construction and material technologies to be used to rebuild/replace the floating docks, bulkhead and boardwalk in order to maximize aesthetic value, life expectancy and inclement-weather protection and to minimize environmental impact; and
  • Call out a range of implementation cost with the band of this range not to exceed 20% from the low-end estimate to the high-end estimate.
