GOAL 3: ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY AND PROTECTION FROM HARMFUL POLLUTANTS
Health concerns and public safety go hand in hand. Older adults and adults with disabilities often feel unsafe on major roads as loitering and blocked sidewalks are common. There are individuals who sell drugs and threaten senior citizens in neighborhoods, fast food parking lots, on porch of vacant properties, and on the streets. Public safety ensures the protection of citizens, persons in organizations, and institutions against threats to their well-being – and contributes to the prosperity of communities. In addition to law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services, community members and residents need to examine how to keep each other safe.

GOAL 4: ENSURE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO QUALITY CLINICAL CARE FOR ALL GREATER DEANWOOD RESIDENTS
The healthcare infrastructure in the greater Deanwood area mainly consists of primary care clinics—all Federally-Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), mostly run by Unity Health Care --and mini clinics. While there is an urgent care center opening in Fall 2021, there is no hospital currently located East of the River and little access to pharmacies. Residents must travel long distances to either Prince George’s County, Maryland or wards west of the River to receive specialty services of any kind, which can lead to putting off needed care as long as possible. Though almost all the primary care clinics have walk in appointments, extended hours and weekend availability, the quality of care in primary care clinics needs to be addressed.
