About the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River Subarea Plan

King County Local Services is in the initial planning phases of the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River Subarea Plan! The focus is on rural, unincorporated King County outside of cities and towns.

The Subarea Plan will include a vision for the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area for the next 20 years. The Plan will include policies to help the community and King County government achieve that vision. The goal of this subarea plans is to make real, equitable improvements to the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and plays in this area.

The Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River Subarea Plan will cover:

Land Use and Zoning
Housing and Human Services
Environment
Parks, Open Space, and Cultural Resources
Transportation
Services and Utilities
Economic Development

Input from communities in the Greater Maple Valley and Cedar River will be reflected in the Executive’s recommended Subarea Plan and in related actions that will be reviewed by the County Council in 2026 and 2027.

The Subarea Plan is part of the King County Comprehensive Plan. King County creates detailed subarea plans for different geographies within the unincorporated areas of King County. A subarea plan takes a closer look at areas in ways that the broader Comprehensive Plan cannot. This helps King County make decisions that fit with the community's goals and the goals of the Comprehensive Plan.
