Project Highlights

The purpose of this project is to replace Bridge No. 208 on Village Road NE over Sturgeon Creek.  The current bridge is 101 feet long with a roadway width of 33.8 feet.  The replacement structure would be a 24-inch cored slab bridge approximately 130 feet long providing a 45-foot clear deck width.  The bridge will include two 12-foot lanes, 3- to 4-foot shoulders, a 10-foot 9-inch multi-use path (MUP), separated from travel lanes by a one-foot wide concrete divider, and a two-bar metal barrier rail.  The roadway grade of the new structure will be approximately the same as the existing structure.

An off-site detour will be used to maintain traffic during construction. The off-site detour is approximately 5 miles in length and uses Old Fayetteville Road, Lanvale Road, and Village Road.  A traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Lanvale Road and Village Road/Fletcher Road to help with the off-site detour.  The traffic signal will remain in place after completion.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
