The Water Transportation Advisory Board (WTAB) helps guide Kentucky’s efforts to strengthen and grow its water transportation system.

The board works closely with Kentucky government leaders to provide input on policies, priorities, and investments that support the efficient use of Kentucky’s rivers and public riverports. Its role is focused on ensuring resources are directed where they can have the greatest impact on economic development and freight movement.

Key responsibilities include:

• Advising on strategies to improve and expand water transportation across the state
• Recommending priorities for funding and investment in riverport projects
• Reviewing grant applications and recommending projects for funding
• Supporting the development and promotion of Kentucky’s riverport system
• Helping define and support the state’s role in water transportation initiatives
