Motor Vehicle Commission
Motor Vehicle Commission
The Kentucky Motor Vehicle Commission helps ensure that buying and selling vehicles in Kentucky is fair, transparent, and in compliance with state law.
The Commission oversees the licensing of motor vehicle dealers, salespeople, manufacturers, distributors, and their representatives under KRS Chapter 190. By setting and enforcing these standards, KMVC helps maintain a professional and accountable vehicle marketplace across the Commonwealth.
KMVC also serves as a consumer protection resource. The agency reviews and investigates complaints related to dealership practices—such as issues with vehicle title transfers, trade-in processing, and the use of dealer plates or temporary tags. While the Commission does not handle restitution or financial recovery, it works to address violations and improve compliance.
