School Route Ped/Bike Safety Improvements Project - Pinecrest Elementary School Safety
School Route Ped/Bike Safety Improvements Project - Pinecrest Elementary School Safety
Welcome to the virtual public engagement for the Pinecrest Elementary School Routes Safety Improvements Project (CIP # 69676324). This public engagement forum is open for your information and feedback from Aug. 4 to Aug. 22, 2025. Please share your feedback for the proposed student pedestrian and bicycling improvements on the survey page. The survey information you provide supports Safe Routes to School grant applications for funding future projects. Your feedback is recorded and reviewed to improve the project.
Project Overview
The Hillsborough County School Route Safety Improvement Program strives to encourage more walking and bicycling to school by making it safer and more comfortable for students. Each year, engineers study the routes students take to several schools to identify improvements for pedestrians and cyclists such as sidewalks, crosswalks, bicycle facilities, and improved traffic signal operations that prioritize crossing students. These proposed improvements are shared with Project Advisory Committees made up of school principals, PTA members, and other stakeholders to gather their feedback and support. The County is conducting this virtual engagement to share proposed pedestrian and bicycling improvements with parents and the community to obtain feedback and learn more about their priorities.
Project Study Area
The map below shows the 2-mile radius from Pinecrest Elementary School where school busing is not provided, the student walking routes that were studied for pedestrian and bicycling improvements, existing sidewalk, and existing marked crosswalks.
Student Pedestrian Safety Toolbox
The toolbox below contains improvements that provide safety and comfort to students walking and bicycling to school. Tier 1 improvements in the yellow squares can be implemented the following year and include new high-visibility crosswalks, pedestrian signage, and modified school zones. Tier 2 improvements in the blue squares will be designed next year and constructed in two years and include new sidewalk, shared-use path, new crossings at C.R. 39 and Lithia Pinecrest Road, pedestrian-friendly signal timing, posted speed reductions, and street lighting.
