Project Highlights

The N.C. Department of Transportation  proposes to replace Bridge No. 1180 on Meacham Road (S.R. 1639) over I-40 in Statesville.  The replacement bridge will include space for a future sidewalk.

The replacement bridge will include space for a future sidewalk.  The bridge will be closed during construction and an off-site detour using U.S. 64 (W. Front Street) will be used to cross I-40.  It is anticipated that construction will last approximately 12 to 18 months.

Proposed Detour Route

The proposed detour route follows West Front Street to U.S. 64 and then to Northside Drive.

Proposed Typical Section

Note: The 7'-6" space is for a future sidewalk, while the 3' space is for a paved shoulder.  At this time, it is unknown whether the future sidewalk will be on the east side (next to the northbound travel lane) or the west side (next to the southbound travel lane) of the bridge.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
