Tree Ordinance

A recent study by the US Forest Service, the SC Forestry Commission and the Green Infrastructure Center revealed that the city of Greenville has experienced significant loss of our tree canopy since 2001. In order to preserve the existing tree canopy and address the impact of development on the natural environment, the City is rewriting its tree protection and replacement ordinance. To date, public engagement and input have been integral to the process. This survey is designed to solicit community feedback on three key elements of the new ordinance.

While the majority of Greenville's tree canopy is located within single-family residential zones, the City's current tree protection ordinance does not include any protections for trees on existing single-family lots with homes on them.

Fees would be based on the market rate for tree replacement.
