Design Alternatives
Alternative 1: PCH Master Plan Design
- Adds approximately one mile of sidewalk along both sides of PCH.
- Adds 5- to 6-foot Class II bike lanes with green pavement markings in conflict areas.
- Removes the center turn lane to maintain travel lanes and parking while creating space for bicycle and pedestrian improvements.
- Improves intersection visibility, pedestrian crossings and refuge areas, bus stop access, signs, pavement markings, speed management, and drainage.
Alternative 2: Hybrid Design 
- Adds approximately one mile of sidewalk and 5-foot Class II bike lanes.
- Maintains a 10-foot center turn lane through most of the corridor and removes it for approximately 500 feet between Rambla Vista North and Carbon Canyon Road.
- Uses 10.5-foot travel lanes to provide space for parking, bike lanes, sidewalks, and the center turn lane.
- Maintains U-turn access at Carbon Canyon Road.
- Includes intersection, pedestrian crossing, bus stop, speed management, pavement marking, and drainage improvements.
Alternative 3: Full Standard Design
- Adds a double roundabout at Las Flores Canyon Road.
- Adds a shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians.
- Widens the existing bridge on both sides.
- Provides 12-foot travel lanes, a 12-foot center turn lane, 6-foot Class II bike lanes, and designated parking.
- Removes part of the center turn lane between Rambla Vista North and Carbon Canyon Road.
- Includes intersection visibility, crossing, bus stop, speed management, pavement marking, and drainage improvements.
Alternative 4: No-Build
- Keeps the existing roadway and configuration.
- Limits future work to routine maintenance.
- Does not add new safety or multimodal improvements.
- Would not address the safety, access, and operational needs identified for the corridor.
