Pack Square Plaza Visioning and Art in the Heart
Pack Square Plaza Visioning and Art in the Heart
The City of Asheville and Buncombe County are partnering with McAdams Company to document the community’s vision for a more equitable, accessible and inclusive Pack Square Plaza, which sits in the heart of downtown Asheville and serves as a social and economic hub for the region. The first phase of the project includes site analysis and community engagement.
Welcome to the Pack Square Plaza Visioning Engagement Hub - We're Glad You're Here!

Information gathered on this hub- as well as through other outreach and attendance at meetings and events- will be used by the City and the County to create a Pack Square Plaza Vision- a guidebook for a more equitable, accessible and inclusive space in the heart of Asheville's downtown. The study area includes the public space between Biltmore Avenue and Market Street downtown, including the site where the Vance Monument was previously located. The final vision document will also suggest improvements to the physical and mental connections to and from The Block neighborhood just next door, which has a past, present, and future inextricably linked to that of Pack Square Plaza and downtown Asheville.
And, we also are inviting you to come downtown and experience one or more temporary installations from the Art in the Heart program. Share your thoughts on the artwork by clicking on the second tab below. Art in the Heart is a temporary art program specifically designed to help stimulate conversations about themes like identity, community, inclusion, healing, unity, and resilience. It's also a way to start conversations about how public spaces can, or don’t, help reflect or express a community's past, present, and future.
