Route 50 Study Alternatives (ST-23-09)
Welcome to the Route 50 Project Pipeline Study Survey
Please provide feedback on project ideas to improve safety on Route 50 between Route 751 (Gore Road) and Route 608 (Wardensville Grade). Your feedback will help your local leaders determine whether to pursue future funding opportunities.
Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Through this planning process, projects and solutions may be considered for funding through programs, including SMART SCALE, revenue sharing, interstate funding and others.

Background
The focus of this study is to assess key areas of the Route 50 corridor in Frederick County. This corridor along Route 50 between Route 751 (Gore Road) and Route 608 (Wardensville Grade) has locations in need of safety improvement, as well as identified operational issues during peak hour periods.
This survey is intended to obtain public input on the alternatives under consideration to address the issues that were identified by the study team and through the previous survey that was conducted in June and July 2023. In general, most of the previous survey respondents traveled through the corridor in a personal vehicle. Respondents identified the need to reduce speeding and aggressive driving, add left turn lanes, and improve corridor safety as their primary considerations for the study corridor.
This corridor has several very high safety need segments and has seen multiple fatal crashes over recent time periods. Additionally, there are 32 median crossovers within this 7.7-mile corridor and the study team is analyzing concerns about speeding. Capacity preservation is a very high need; therefore, safety improvements will consider ways to preserve the long-term operational characteristics of the corridor.
